    Babysitting Basics (Online Course)

    Created for those ages 11 and older, our online babysitting training course can help you learn how to provide confident care for infants and children, understand what to do in an emergency, choose age-appropriate activities, recognize and handle a range of behaviors, learn how to start your own babysitting business, and more. At the end of this course, a certificate of completion will be issued.

    Advanced Childcare Training (Online Course)

    Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to care for children and infants inside and outside of the home. The course, designed for those aged 16 and older, delivers leadership training, child behavior and discipline training, as well as information on professionalism, safety, basic childcare and more.

    Babysitter’s Training (In-Person Course)

    This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential, real-life readiness babysitting skills.     How Long Does a Babysitting Course Take?

    Babysitting Basics Online takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Upon passing the final exam, you will receive a certificate of completion.

    Advanced Child Care Online takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete, and after passing the final exam, you will receive a certificate of completion.

    Babysitter Training takes approximately 5 hours to complete, usually offered in a single day. If Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is added to the in-person training, the course will take just over 7 hours to complete. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certification valid for 10 years.

    Are Red Cross Babysitting Courses Intended for State licensed Child Care Providers?

    No. At the Red Cross we provide those ages 11 and older with a comprehensive education in babysitting and child care best practices. However, it's important to note that none of our babysitting classes in Michigan are intended for state-licensed child care centers or day care providers, as our courses do not meet all the state requirements for such certification.
