BLS Certification in Cedar Rapids
At the American Red Cross, we understand that schedules can be challenging, and that everyone learns differently. That's why we offer our Cedar Rapids Basic Life Support certification classes in two formats: in person, which includes a lecture and a skills session, and via Simulation Learning, which combines online coursework with an in-person skills session. Once successfully completed, both types of courses result in full certification. So regardless of how you learn best – you can get the credentials you need for the job you want.
In Cedar Rapids, our BLS certification classes have been designed for first responders, nurses, EMTs and other medical professionals. The course has been developed under the guidance of, and reviewed by, the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council – a panel of more than 50 nationally recognized experts from a wide range of scientific, medical and academic disciplines – ensuring that the information provided in class meets or exceeds local, state and/or national standards. For information on upcoming BLS certification classes, check the newest course schedule.
Basic Life Support classes may include CPR, first aid and AED training, but they go far beyond what classes for the general public include, and focus on a number of subjects that first responders and healthcare providers need to know. Instead of simple how-to instructions, we use a scenario-based approach that allows class participants to respond to calls for care as they might experience them in the "real world" – where they'd be required to evaluate scene safety, work as a team, and understand the legal implications of their actions. To provide course participants with the best BLS training possible, all of our class materials are consistent with AHA Guidelines for CPR/ECC, cover care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, and deliver training in CPR, AED, and obstructed airways for adults, children, and infant patients. At the Red Cross we offer world-class training and science based courses that can help you stay at the forefront of your field. But no student can synthesize the information provided in class without a little effort on their part – which is why we encourage you to engage in practices that can help ensure your success. For instance, when you take notes, and participate in class discussions, information is reinforced. And when you practice your skills with others, you can improve your skills based on what others observe, and you'll have the chance to see how other people perform the same skills – which can help deepen your understanding of the information learned in class. Of course, throughout your BLS training in Cedar Rapids, your instructor will be available to answer any questions you may have and can explain concepts in a variety of ways, so don't be shy – it's one of the reasons they're there. Regardless of what you need, we'll do our best to help – and we wish you success in this and all of your future endeavors.
If you have several team members who need BLS training in Cedar Rapids, you can schedule a group class with the Red Cross and allow everyone to train together. In Cedar Rapids, your Basic Life Support certification will be valid for two years. However, rather than completing another full course to maintain your certification, you can simply sign up for an abbreviated BLS recertification class.
