Ready to learn something that could potentially save a life? Dr. Nathan Charlton, a member of the Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, suggests everyone should carry Naloxone in their first aid kits.
“Certainly, anyone with an at-risk population, absolutely. But I think anyone should. I carry it around. I think it’s good to have it. I work in a hospital setting but have come across individuals on the hospital campus that have an opioid toxidrome [a toxic syndrome]. And therefore, I think it’s good for anyone to have it. It’s something we can use to save a life.” — Dr. Nathan Charlton, Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council
People who carry naloxone should store it according to the manufacturer's instructions and keep it in a location that can be accessed quickly during an emergency. Some individuals choose to carry naloxone with them, while others keep it at home, work or in a first aid kit. The American Red Cross offers an Opioid Overdose Kit with Naloxone Nasal Spray that includes naloxone nasal spray and overdose response supplies.
