Lifeguard Training in Baltimore
The Red Cross's lifeguarding classes in Baltimore are typically held over the course of several days in person at facilities throughout the city. However, we also offer a blended approach to lifeguard training. Our Simulation Learning courses combine online coursework with an in-person skills session, so you can learn at your own pace and still demonstrate your skills to one of our trained and certified instructors.
Our in-person courses are perfect for those who prefer a traditional learning environment, offering the time to learn, ask questions and view in-person demonstrations. The total time commitment for our in-person lifeguarding course is 25 hours and 20 minutes.
Lifeguarding training gives you the opportunity to help others safely enjoy their time in, on, and around the water. In order to prepare your for a wide range of lifeguarding careers, we offer general lifeguarding classes in Baltimore, as well as more specialized training, like aquatic attraction and shallow water lifeguarding.
The American Red Cross has three courses that are featured during Lifeguard training in Baltimore: Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding (water up to 5 feet deep) and Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding (water up to 3 feet deep). A two year certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is issued upon successful completion of our training and coursework.
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual was created to assist you in your Baltimore Lifeguard training while also answering all of your questions, from basic water safety to how to best respond in an emergency situation. The Red Cross Lifeguarding Manual is available in both a digital format as well as a traditional printed version.
A review conducted by the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council states that less than half of course participants can pass a skills test one year after training. Skill retention begins to decline only after a few months which is why refresher courses are so important. The American Red Cross lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while renewing your certification for another two years. For those whose certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring), our renewal courses allow you to continue to work without a lapse in verification.
After successfully completing your Baltimore lifeguard training with the American Red Cross you'll earn a two year certification that can help you demonstrate your skills to potential employers. Certificates are available digitally, and can be accessed via unique ID and QR codes, making it easy to confirm your credentials anytime.
