    Emerging Scholar Fellowship Program

    This program invites training and early career scholars to work with the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. Fellows will work with one or more of the individual Sub-Councils, consisting of Adult Resuscitation, Aquatics, Disaster Cycle, Education, First Aid and Pediatric Resuscitation, to develop a core project that will benefit the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross. Fellows will be mentored by members of the Council to develop the skills to make immediate and long-term positive impacts on human health and safety.

    Who is eligible to apply for the fellowship?

    We invite emerging scholars early in their careers (i.e., less than 5 years post-graduate or less than 5 peer-reviewed publications) to apply for the program.

    What is the duration of the fellowship?

    The fellowship is a 1-to-2-year program, with the exact duration based on the fellow's needs and project goals.

    What are the time commitments?

    We are asking for approximately 10 hours per month, excluding semi-annual meetings.

    Where will the fellows work?

    Fellows will work remotely online with SAC members and attend semi-annual SAC meetings in Washington, D.C.

    What support is provided for travel?

    Funding is provided for travel to the semi-annual meetings in Washington, DC and one domestic meeting to present research produced during the fellowship.

    What is expected from the fellows?

    Fellows will attend online and in person meetings and work with SAC members to complete a core project, present it at the semi-annual meetings, submit it to an academic conference and ensure it is suitable for peer-reviewed publication.

    Who will supervise the fellows?

    A mentor from the primary Sub-council will assist with project development and executions. Fellows will also work with other mentors during their projects to develop key research and writing skills.

    Are there specific timeframes for eligibility?

    Fellows will be selected on a rolling basis but will generally be selected to start in June or January, to correspond with semi-annual Red Cross meetings.
