This program invites training and early career scholars to work with the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. Fellows will work with one or more of the individual Sub-Councils, consisting of Adult Resuscitation, Aquatics, Disaster Cycle, Education, First Aid and Pediatric Resuscitation, to develop a core project that will benefit the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross. Fellows will be mentored by members of the Council to develop the skills to make immediate and long-term positive impacts on human health and safety.
We invite emerging scholars early in their careers (i.e., less than 5 years post-graduate or less than 5 peer-reviewed publications) to apply for the program.
The fellowship is a 1-to-2-year program, with the exact duration based on the fellow's needs and project goals.
We are asking for approximately 10 hours per month, excluding semi-annual meetings.
Fellows will work remotely online with SAC members and attend semi-annual SAC meetings in Washington, D.C.
Funding is provided for travel to the semi-annual meetings in Washington, DC and one domestic meeting to present research produced during the fellowship.
Fellows will attend online and in person meetings and work with SAC members to complete a core project, present it at the semi-annual meetings, submit it to an academic conference and ensure it is suitable for peer-reviewed publication.
A mentor from the primary Sub-council will assist with project development and executions. Fellows will also work with other mentors during their projects to develop key research and writing skills.
Fellows will be selected on a rolling basis but will generally be selected to start in June or January, to correspond with semi-annual Red Cross meetings.
