Additional Information
Description
Required reading for the American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) Foundations and Comprehensive courses, the NALS Participant's Manual prepares participants to successfully complete the blended learning online session, including the cognitive exam, in-person skills, and team-based scenario practice and testing stations.

The American Red Cross has collaborated with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) to develop an innovative option for neonatal resuscitation training that addresses the management of the newborn, both in and out of the traditional delivery room or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) including the emergency department, birthing centers and emergency medical services (EMS) environments.

The American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support Blended Learning courses provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize, and care for newborns who require resuscitation. Any healthcare provider involved in the birth of a newborn must be ready to intervene with the appropriate knowledge and competency, as well as to work as part of a team to prioritize adequate ventilation to achieve cardiopulmonary function and ensure optimal newborn outcomes. The course emphasizes providing high-quality newborn care by integrating psychomotor skills, evidence-based interventions, high-reliability principles and pharmacologic knowledge with critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible outcomes. The content in the American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support program is consistent with the Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), the American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support Healthcare Guidelines as developed by the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, AWHONN and the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association.
